Getting Married in Cabo

Why get married in Cabo

Traditionally, most couples decide on a destination wedding in order to avoid the stress and cost of a large wedding in their home town. Opting instead for a more inexpensive and intimate ceremony on a exotic beach. Los Cabos has the distinction of being among the most solicited locations for a destination wedding. Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the overwhelming amounts of information available for planning a wedding, we have included a simple list of our most frequent asked questions. Give us a call or fill out the wedding questionnaire to arrange a more detailed consultation with our staff.

Please be advised, Mexican law regarding travel into the country changed December 31, 2006. A valid passport is now required to enter the country.

1. What are the legal requirements and to marry in Mexico?

Answer: There are two types of ceremonies performed in Mexico: the Civil Ceremony and the Non Denominational or symbolic Ceremony. The Civil Ceremony is the only option that will make your marriage legal in Mexico and the rest of the world. Performed by a Spanish speaking justice of the peace (translation is available), this legal ceremony will change your marital status from single to married.

Requirements of a Civil Ceremony:

  1. Copies of your Birth Certificates, sent to our office upon confirmation of your wedding date
  2. Lab work completed in the State in which you are getting married (Baja California Sur)
  3. Copy of your Tourist Immigration Form (you receive these on the plane)
  4. The first and last page of your Divorce decree, if applicable.

2. It is necessary to be divorced at least one year in advance of your Civil Ceremony in Mexico. This is a government law and there are no exceptions.

The Civil Ceremony can be performed in the Judge's chambers weekdays at 12:00 noon or 1:00 PM only. The Civil Ceremony can also be performed outside the Judge's chambers at a location and time of your choice. It is also possible to perform both the Civil and Non-Denominational Ceremony, completing the legalities in the Judge's chambers and having the Officiant for your sunset wedding at a location of your choice.

The Symbolic or non denominational ceremony is the most popular choice for couples getting married in Los Cabos. This ceremony will not change your marital status legally, but offers flexibility when it comes to your vows and how the ceremony is performed. Most couples get a U.S. wedding license for legal purposes and enjoy a beautiful Non Denominational Cabo ceremony and reception in Mexico.

3. What is the best time of year to have our wedding in Cabo?

Answer: There is never a bad time of year to have a wedding in Cabo, although mid October to June are usually recommended due to the warm days and relatively low chances of rain. Many still choose to get married in the summer, but run a higher risk of being affected by strong heat and rain.

4. How far in advance should we book our wedding?

Answer: The answer will depend on the size of your wedding and the type of ceremony you require. There is only one judge in Cabo to perform a Civil Ceremony, therefore advance confirmation of your desired date is suggested. Holiday ceremonies such as New Years, Christmas, and Valentine’s day should also be reserved as soon as a location is found, due to the popularity of those dates for vacationers. As an average, most brides plan their Cabo wedding with at least 6 months to a year of anticipation.

5. What are the booking requirements for a Villa? Do the Villas have any specific restrictions on events?

Answer: Restrictions vary greatly depending on the home owner, length of stay and the season. As a rule most Villas require a three night minimum stay plus an additional event fee. Most event fees are equivalent to a one night's stay and enforced on groups over 25 . Noise restrictions and HOA fees can also be enforced in some communities, but aren't as universal as the event fee. The best source of information when deciding on a villa location will be one of our agents.

6. What Resorts are better for a wedding?

Answer: There is an option for everyone in Los Cabos and the best option depends on your taste and budget. Normally if you want a quiet and intimate wedding, many will choose a resort in the Corridor. Resorts on Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas are best for active groups or groups with small children.

For more specific recommendations, call us at 1-888-252-5607 or fill out one of our questionnaires.

7. If I decide to stay in a Villa, how will I arrange all the services and who do I call if an issue were to arise?

We have a knowledgeable and friendly onsite staff in Los Cabos to handle all your in travel needs. Not only do they handle the check-in to your accommodations, but can arrange your transportation, pre-stock, catering, spa, activities, and even recommend to you a great wedding coordinator.
